PA State Council of Knights of Columbus Elects Attorney Michael J. O’Connor Sate Deputy

Knights of Columbus State Deputy Joseph Yourish announced the election of Attorney Michael J. O’Connor of Frackville as Knights of Columbus State Deputy for the Fraternal Years 2006-2008. The election was held by the Pennsylvania State Council of the Knights of Columbus at its 109th annual convention held in Lancaster, PA on May 22, 2006. The motion to nominate Sir Knight O’Connor was made by Former State Treasurer for the Frackville Council, Sir Knight Reverend Doctor Joseph Costa, Sr., of Frackville. State Deputy Art Yoho and F. Parker Lessel from the Lehigh Valley, both Past State Deputies, seconded the nomination. O’Connor won by a unanimous vote. In this capacity it will be his responsibility to be the Chief Executive Officer over the entire jurisdiction of Pennsylvania which totals over 66,000 members. The Knight’s of Columbus is a Catholic fraternal organization with over 2 million members worldwide with assets of 6 billion dollars and over 50 billion dollars worth of insurance. O’Connor previously served as State Advocate for the 2000 to 2002 Fraternal Year and also four years as the organization’s District Deputy of District 42 which included Pottsville, Minersville, Shenandoah, Girardville and Frackville. He is the Past Faithful Navigator for the 4th Degree Schuylkill County Assembly #0923, Pottsville and the Past Grand Knight for the Rev. James A. Hogan Council #2580 of Frackville. The last time a State Deputy was elected from Schuylkill County was in 1958 when John Cooney of Port Carbon held the post.

He currently holds the following parish and diocesan positions: St. Ann’s Church Eucharistic Minister, St. Ann’s Church Parish Council, Holy Family School Board, Holy Family CYO Basketball Coach, Cardinal Brennan High School 9th Grade Basketball Coach, Cardinal Brennan High School Advisory Board Member, Cardinal Brennan High School Financial Committee Chairman, REACH Alliance (School Choice) Board Member, Harrisburg, Catholic Charities Board Member for Allentown Diocese, Diocesan Review Board Member for Allentown Diocese, Diocesan School Board Member for Allentown Diocese, Legatus Lehigh Chapter Member, Good Samaritan Giving Counsel, Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation Board of Directors and the Allentown Diocese Synod Executive Committee.

He is a member of the District of Columbia’s Bar, PA Bar Association, Schuylkill County Bar Association, Past President of the Frackville Rotary in 1989 and 1999, and is a member of SEDCO and the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, Ancient Order of Hibernians of Pottsville, The Brehon Law Society of Philadelphia, The Union League of Philadelphia, and President of the St. Thomas More Society of Schuylkill County.

Married to the former Patricia O’Kane, the O’Connor’s reside in Frackville with their three children Mary Kathleen, James and John Patrick.
